Team Lab Play Installations
The exhibition area is smaller than expected, it is divided into six areas. Despite the limited space, we were able to stay and enjoy the space for almost two hours. The six major play installations inside the park are Graffiti Nature, Sliding through the Fruit Field, Hopscotch for Geniuses, Sketch Town, A Table Where Little People Live, and Light Ball Orchestra.
When we entered the exhibition, the staff handed us some papers. These papers will be used in Graffiti Nature and Sketch Town, so keep them safe.
Graffiti Nature
Entering the exhibition area for the first time, it felt like I entered into another world. The first installation that we saw is Graffiti Nature. In this area, the floor is uneven, like a valley with ups and downs. The walls and floors are filled with colorful creatures and flowers.
This is the part where you can unleash your creativity and color them whatever you want. Afterward, let the staff scan your drawings and watch your creations come to life.

The area allows us to interact with the artwork. When we stand still or place our hands on the wall, flowers will bloom around us. When we move or step on the flowers, the petals will scatter. There are also animals such as snakes and salamanders wandering around.
This is my favorite area because besides being an entertaining interactive area, it also has an educational purpose. It brings awareness and reminds us that we are all part of an ecosystem, each with a role to play.
Furthermore, the animals that appear in this work are threatened and endangered species on the Red List of The International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
Sliding through the Fruit Field

Next to the Graffiti Nature is the Sliding through the Fruit Field. In this part of the exhibition, visitors need to remove their shoes and wear socks to play. The fruit field is filled with different colors of balls, each with a different representation. The light blue ball represents water, and the ball with yellow and black stripes represents bumblebees, and the black ball represents trash. The seeds will turn into sprouts and flowers will turn into fruits when hit by the ball. I think it is a really creative way to teach children about the lifecycle of plants.
Hopscotch for Geniuses

Next, we saw an interactive space that looks like a river. It has various shapes floating on the river. This is a special kind of hopscotch.
There are no stones involved in this game of hopscotch, but when you land on the same shape several times, animals such as fish, bird, or butterfly is born. On the other hand, by jumping on the same-colored shapes, colors will spread throughout the area.
This area teaches young children to learn different shapes and patterns.
Sketch Town

This is an interesting area of the exhibition. Similar to Graffiti Nature, our creations come to life after the staff scanned our artwork.
The only difference is that the 2D drawings of cars, fire trucks, spaceships, houses, and buildings became animated 3D objects moving in a small town.

Similarly, we can also interact with our artwork by touching them. It is amazing to see how our technologies have advanced to create this art by simply scanning a paper.
A Table Where Little People Live

Next to Sketch Town, there is a table with adorable little people walking around. I think they looked like little elves. It was fun to observe them go about, jumping and walking around. We can use the items on the table to interact with them. The little people will jump and climb playfully.
Light Ball Orchestra

Lastly, we spent some time at the Light Ball Orchestra. Some light balls were hanging from the ceiling, while some were on the ground.
To interact with these light balls, we hit or roll the balls to change their color. Interestingly, the sound of the ball also changes. This area is best experienced when more people are interacting with the balls, it will produce different sounds, just like an orchestra.
However, the area is smaller than I imagined. We left shortly after a group of children came to the area.
Tips
- Bring wet tissue to wipe your hands after coloring.
- Bring or wear socks if you plan to slide through the fruit field.
- Plan your visit on a weekday if possible. We visited on a weekday afternoon (around 2:30 pm), and we were able to get decent photos without many people in the background.
