Are you a big fan of Disney? If so, do not miss these Disney events in Hong Kong. As part of the 100th anniversary of Disney, shopping malls in Hong Kong have collaborated and featured several art installations and photo opportunities for fans. Furthermore, there is a two-day D100 concert that is going to be held in September. Plus, there are a few exciting news about Hong Kong Disneyland too!
Disney 100 Art Installation
To celebrate the 100 years of Disney magic, three shopping malls under the Wharf Group installed various art installations of beloved Disney characters. Disney fans can purchase the Travel Journey and collect commemorative stamps on the booklet. Each shopping mall has its own themed journey, but the commemorative stamps are unique across the malls. Hence, if your goal is to complete the Travel Journal, you must visit all these malls. The event period is until September 3, 2023. Fans can redeem special gifts by completing their travel journal.
Time Square
Time Square is one of the most popular shopping malls in Causeway Bay. The art installations are displayed in the Open Piazza. It is easy to find and you can’t miss it because it can be seen from afar. Afterward, proceed to the 2nd level of the mall and check out the art gallery and interactive photo booth gallery. The art gallery features some of my favorite Disney quotes. Lastly, before you leave, check out the pop-up store at B1 and 5th floor that sells Disney merchandise.
At Time Square, you can collect the commemorative stamps and participate in the Disney 100 Hunt. The commemorative stamps are located outside the open piazza and inside the mall. For more information about prize redemption, check out the official event details here.
Harbour City & LCX
Harbour City is a very large shopping mall. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by Mickey and Friends and a giant Disney cruise in front of the mall.
You can try your luck and win special prizes such as memo pads and limited edition stickers at the game booths on the cruise. The game booths start operating from 12 noon to 8 pm.
I visited Harbour City twice because the typhoon warning was hoisted when I visited the first time. For safety reasons, the displays at Ocean Terminal Deck were closed during bad weather. So, check the weather before visiting.
To sum up, here at Harbour City, you can play games on a Disney cruise to win special prizes. You can also collect the stamps to complete your Travel Journal and participate in various workshops such as the coloring workshop at LCX, and the Princess bookmark workshop at Ocean Terminal. Plaza Hollywood
Plaza Hollywood is located in Diamond Hill. At Plaza Hollywood, you will see Mei Mei from the film Turning Red, together with Mickey, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Stitch, and more. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to visit Plaza Hollywood yet, so I have no pictures to share with you at this moment. You can check out the events page of the mall for more details.
Similar to the other malls, Plaza Hollywood also has a pop-up store and various weekend workshops for Disney fans to participate in.
Disney 100: The Concert
HKSW Orchestra and performers will perform songs from Disney classics such as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King, Moana, and many more. The animated films will be projected live on a big screen.
The concert will be held on the 9th and 10th of September 2023 at the Star Hall, Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, Kowloon. There are two timeslots each day – 11 am and 4 pm. For more information, check out HK Ticketing.
Hong Kong Disneyland
Lastly, Hong Kong Disneyland also has a few exciting announcements. First of all, the new Frozen-themed land will be opening this year. This is the first ever Frozen-themed land that is only available in Hong Kong Disneyland. A family-friendly roller coaster will be added to the park.
Secondly, the Sword in the Stone near Cinderella’s Carousel in Fantasy Land will be replaced by a new Walt Disney and Mickey statue.
Last but not least, our beloved Disney characters will change into 100th-anniversary outfits. Plus, one of the original characters, Oswald, will also make its debut in the park! Read more about the 2023 events and activities in Hong Kong Disneyland here.
