Lai Chi Kok

Lai Chi Kok – a popular place for millennials

About Lai Chi Kok

Located in Kowloon, Lai Chi Kok is a neighborhood in the Sham Shui Po district. It was solely for industrial and residential purposes. However, after a series of redevelopments by the government, it has gained popularity in recent years. One of the reasons is because of the D2 place. It is the first industrial building in Hong Kong that turned into a shopping mall. Ever since the place has been a popular place for millennials and nearby residents.

D2 Place

So what’s this place about? There are plenty of things to see and do here. You can immerse yourself in VR shooting games, or hop on an indoor go-kart and compete with friends. It is a delightful place for shopping and dining too.

Shopping

In D2 Place, you can find many handmade products such as phone cases, stickers, bags, jewelry, and other accessories. Moreover, most of these products are made by local designers and artists. Besides shopping for basic needs, there are a few shops for pets too.

Dining

We visited D2 Place TWO and decided to have lunch at Food Garden ETC Cafe. The restaurant serves Western cuisine, we ordered pasta and pizza for sharing. Besides Western cuisine, D2 Place ONE and TWO offer various international cuisines. The full list of restaurants can be found here. However, one restaurant that caught my eye was Mr. Tree.

Mr. Tree

Mr. Tree is a family-friendly restaurant. It is half-restaurant and half-playground, hence you won’t see this under the dining list on the D2 Place website. The place has a sand pit and a playground with a ball pit with different stuffed toys for children to play in. According to their website, they serve salad, pasta, udon, risotto, and Western food. Unfortunately, we were not able to check this out because it was fully booked for a children’s birthday party. Therefore, I recommend you make a reservation online before visiting.

Play

There are different fun activities that you can do in D2 Place. You can challenge your friends in a friendly go-kart competition, test your skills in archery or laser tag, team up with your friends to defeat zombies, or enjoy an indoor amusement park with your children. The full list of activities can be found here.

VAR LIVE

My friends and I decided to try the VAR LIVE. It has several themes, the most popular are Resident Evil and Jurassic Park. There are also family-friendly themes that are suitable for kids to play. We purchased our tickets online, our tickets include 3 VR games of our choice.

The staff briefed us on how to play including how to use the weapon of our choice, what to look out for, what to expect, and what not to do. The last part is really important because wearing the VR headset, you might get too immersed in the game and hurt yourself.

Scented Candle Making Workshop at Scent Sense

Scented candles workshops are one of the most popular workshops in Hong Kong. Located at Lai Chi Kok, Scent Sense studio is a few minutes walk from MTR. The studio hosts candle workshops and art workshops. When I entered the studio, I was welcomed by the fragrance of the scented candles on display and the beautiful artwork displayed at the corner of the studio.

The instructor is friendly and knowledgeable. They offer candle workshops such as flower candle workshops, breakfast or afternoon tea workshops, and many more. I enrolled in the soy wax object candle workshop. If you are interested, you can check out their workshops here. The workshop I attended took around 1.5 hours, I was able to get my finished candle after the workshop.
