HK Disneyland Castle

Our HK Disneyland Staycation (with 20th Anniversary Guide)

If you’re planning a trip to HK Disneyland, this is your sign to go soon, because Hong Kong Disneyland’s 20th anniversary celebration runs through June 7, 2026, only.

My family and I planned a Disney staycation. In this post, I’ll share our itinerary, how we prioritize the 20th anniversary shows, plus my honest experience staying at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. From check-in vibes to how easy it was to get to the park, to the breakfast buffet the following morning, and the check-out process.

If you’re traveling to Hong Kong for the first time, I suggest buying an Octopus Card to make your travel smoother.

Exclusive HK Disneyland 20th Anniversary Shows

Get ready to celebrate! Here are the three captivating shows that are exclusively part of their 20th anniversary celebration! Don’t miss out on this remarkable milestone!

Friendtastic! Parade

Friendtastic Parade
Friendtastic Parade

If you enjoyed their regular parade shows, you’ll absolutely love their brand new parade! This is one of the largest parades I’ve ever seen at HK Disneyland. There are so many new characters and floats included that I wish it would go on forever!

My tip:

  • Check the parade schedule in the official app.
  • Arrive early to secure a spot along the route.
  • If you’re going with kids, buy some popcorn while waiting and treat it as a small break.
  • Bring a portable fan and water to stay hydrated under the sun while waiting.

Disney Friends Live: Party at the Castle!

Experience a vibrant stage show set against the enchanting backdrop of the castle. Join Mickey Mouse and his beloved friends as they dazzle the audience with a lively dance performance, filled with their catchy anniversary theme song that’s sure to leave you humming along. Throughout the show, watch as they transform into their colorful and festive party outfits, adding to the excitement and joy of the celebration. It’s a magical experience that brings the spirit of friendship and fun to life!

If you want to have a designated viewing area, you can purchase the premier access at an additional cost.

Momentous: Party in the Night Sky

Momentous Nighttime show
Momentous Nighttime show!

This nighttime spectacular serves as the grand finale to a magical day at HK Disneyland. For the 20th anniversary, the show has been extended from 20 minutes to 28 minutes. The first eight minutes have been upgraded to a drone show. Just when you think the regular Momentous show is impressive, this upgraded version demonstrates how only Disney can exceed expectations. I am truly amazed by Disney’s creativity and its ability to make this experience even more magical than it already is.

Most people reserve seats as early as two hours before the show. If you want to have a designated viewing area, you can purchase the premier access on Klook at an additional cost. The Disney Premier Access includes priority access to 8 designated attractions and 2 shows.

Our HK Disneyland Staycation Itinerary

Day 1

We arrived at the Disneyland MTR station around 10:30 am. Instead of heading to the resort, we went to the bus stop to wait for the free shuttle to the Hollywood Hotel to check in and drop off our luggage.

Check in at HK Disneyland’s Hollywood Hotel

We showed our ID cards and asked for a connecting room. While I understand that connecting rooms aren’t always available, the receptionist was incredibly kind and managed to find one for us. Since the check-in time is 3 pm, she handed over the hotel room key cards and informed us that we would receive our room numbers via SMS at 3 pm. After which, we left our luggage at the luggage storage near the hotel entrance. Then, took the shuttle bus back to Hong Kong Disneyland.

Hotel Guest Entry to HK Disneyland

If you are staying at any hotel in Disneyland, you have a designated lane in the entrance: a shorter queue to enter the park. Just show the hotel key card to the staff, and they will let you in. This is one of the perks of staying at the hotel.

Our HK Disneyland Itinerary

We arrived at Disneyland around 11 am, bubbling with excitement for the day ahead. With a list of must-do rides and shows in hand, we eagerly entered the park, greeted by the joyful Disney music. Here’s how our day went:

  • 11:15-11:45 AM: Frozen Ever After (30-minute wait)
  • 12-12:50 PM: Grizzly Gulch (45-minute wait)
  • 1 PM: Friendtastic! Parade (20th anniversary show)
  • 1:45 PM-2:10 PM: Late Lunch (You can purchase meal vouchers on Klook)
  • 2:20 PM-2:45 PM: Antman (25-minute wait)
  • 2:50 PM-3:10 PM: Ironman (20-minute wait)
  • 3:15 PM Disney Friends Live: Party at the Castle (20th anniversary show)
  • Picture Taking around Main Street USA
  • 4 PM-5 PM: Took a short break and went back to the Hollywood Hotel
  • 5:45 PM: Mystic Manor
  • 6:30 PM: Festival of the Lion King
  • 7:00 PM: Shopping at Main Street USA
  • 7:30 PM – 9:00: Rest and wait for Momentous
  • 9 PM-9:30 PM: Momentous (20th anniversary show)
  • 10 PM: Dinner at The Archivist
  • 11 PM: Back to the hotel room and rest

Day 2

We did not purchase the 2-Day Fun Ticket, which only cost an extra HKD 100. It was really a great deal, unfortunately, we have other plans and have to go back to the city in the afternoon.

Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest park, so it is possible to finish all rides and shows if you plan it well on a weekday. But it may be exhausting for seniors or families with kids. If your time permits, you can buy the 2-Day ticket, so you can have a second chance at the parade or shows if you missed it or if the shows got cancelled due to bad weather.

Here’s what the Hollywood Hotel looked like. The exterior of the hotel is still under renovation, so it was covered in yellow scaffolding. However, the hotel operations were not affected. We chose the “Mickey and Friends” room, which sleeps four.

Breakfast Buffet at Ink and Plate

Buffet Breakfast
Buffet Breakfast

Our hotel room booking includes a buffet breakfast along with a meet-and-greet. The buffet features a wide selection of food, ranging from Western to Chinese cuisine.

I anticipated seeing a variety of Disney characters walking around the restaurant, but it turns out they only have one character for the entire morning: Minnie Mouse. She simply stands near the entrance while people queue to take photos with her. I was a bit disappointed that we only got to meet one Disney character. Nevertheless, it was still a fun experience because the queue was much shorter than inside Disneyland, allowing for more time to interact with Minnie Mouse.

Checkout

The checkout process was very convenient; you can simply drop your key cards in the express checkout box. However, here’s a helpful tip: if you check out at the reception desk, you can keep the key card as a souvenir.

HK Disneyland’s Hollywood Hotel Review

As a local, staying at the Hollywood Hotel made our staycation feel less like commuting and more like a real mini-trip. It is like a quick escape from reality.

What I liked

  • The overall comfort and themed atmosphere made it feel Disney from the moment we arrived.
  • I love all the interior decorations of the hotel, the paintings, artworks, and the Hollywood-style theme of the hotel.
  • Getting to the park was easy because of the resort’s complimentary shuttle service and designated park entry lane. The shuttle service connects all the Disney hotels and to the park, so you can hop on and visit the other hotels if you have time.
  • It was convenient for our pacing, especially when you have kids or seniors coming along; they can take a proper nap and rest, then return to the park for the nighttime shows.

It should be noted that during our visit, the hotel was under renovation, so the exterior was completely covered by yellow scaffolding netting. The hotel informed us about possible noise and smell from construction, but since we spent most of our time in the park, it was not really an issue for our case. We were worried the room might have a paint or construction smell; fortunately, we did not encounter any strange smell in our room.

Who it’s best for

  • Families who want convenience
  • Anyone doing 1-2 days in the park and wants minimal travel friction. It can be really tiring to commute back to the city after a long day in the park.

Quick Pros & Cons

  • Pros:
    • Easy logistics
    • Designated park entry for hotel guests
    • Great stay vibes
    • Convenient access
    • Dining and merchandise discount vouchers for hotel guests
  • Cons:
    • The price is higher than that in the city
    • Hotel rooms are not very soundproof (we heard some kids screaming while running along the corridor at 6 AM in the morning).

Hollywood Hotel’s complimentary activities

Each hotel has slightly different activities; these are the activities in the Hollywood Hotel. Be sure to check the activity schedule and venue/gathering point. We did not have time to enjoy the hotel’s complimentary activities because we only stayed one night.

  • Disney Artisty Tour
  • Self-Served Pedal Kids Tricycle Experience
  • 20th Anniversary Magical Celebration Tour
  • Beautiful Self-Wandering Tour at Inspirational Lake
  • S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Training Campus
  • Disney Towel Plushies Workshop
  • 20th Anniversary Magical Craft Party
  • Disney Movie Premieres

Final Thoughts

If you want to fully experience the 20th-anniversary celebration at Hong Kong Disneyland, plan your visit before June 2026. Is it worth it? For me, yes! The highlights were the Friendtastic Parade and the grand finale of Momentous.

In addition to HK Disneyland, there’s another theme park called Ocean Park in Hong Kong. If it’s your first time visiting and you have enough time, I recommend planning to visit both parks. If you only have time for one and you’re unsure which park to choose for your first visit, I’ve written a helpful post that may assist you in making a decision. Also, be sure to check out the tips I’ve shared in another post specifically for first-time visitors to Disneyland.
