HK Disneyland is located on Lantau Island, it is easily accessible via MTR. If you are going to the park from Hong Kong Island or Kowloon, take the Tung Chung line and interchange to the Disneyland Resort line from Sunny Bay station. Travel time takes around 30 minutes.
Currently, Hong Kong Disneyland has 7 lands – Adventureland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, Toy Story Land, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Main Street, USA. The park recently announced a new Frozen-themed land which will be opening soon (second half of 2023).
Disneyland is often dubbed as “The Happiest Place On Earth”. I believe visiting all Disney Parks around the world is on every Disney fan’s bucket list. If this is your first time visiting Hong Kong Disneyland, here are some tips that will help you enjoy your stay.

Before anything else, make sure to get an Octopus Card —it’s an essential tool for navigating Hong Kong with ease. The card simplifies your trip, allowing you to conveniently pay for public transportation, including your journey to Hong Kong Disneyland. Plus, you can use it to purchase food, drinks, and merchandise inside the park, making your experience even more hassle-free. You can purchase the Octopus Card in advance and pick it up at the airport.
Download the HK Disneyland App
There are no more time guides and maps distributed near the entrance of the parks. Guests are encouraged to download the official app. The app will provide information about waiting times for different rides, parade and show times, restaurants, etc. The Hong Kong Disneyland app requires an internet connection to access essential information. If you don’t have roaming data, consider getting an eSIM from Airalo. Never used an eSIM before? Airalo makes it simple and convenient! There’s no need for a physical SIM card—you can easily top up and monitor your data usage directly in the app. Staying connected with loved ones and enjoying seamless internet access has never been this easy.
Avoid weekends and public holidays
As much as possible, plan your visit on a weekday. It will save you a lot of time and money. Tickets before and during the holidays tend to be more expensive than regular non-peak days. Be sure to check out both Hong Kong and China public holidays (Chinese New Year, China’s Golden Week, Christmas)
If it cannot be avoided, try to check out these rides in the morning, most of these rides need 40-60 minutes or more wait time in the afternoon during peak days.
- Mystic Manor (Mystic Point)
- Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars (Grizzly Gulch)
- Iron Man Experience (Tomorrowland)
- Hyperspace Mountain (Tomorrowland)
- Antman & the Wasp Nano Battle (Tomorrowland)

Buy your HK Disneyland tickets online
Buy your tickets online to skip the queue at the ticket counter and spend more time in the park. Do check out if there are special offers from the official website and Klook before you buy.
If you plan to visit the park twice in a year (e.g. Halloween + Christmas/Christmas + New Year), HK Disneyland has a special package deal released a few months before Halloween, or Christmas. Be sure to keep an eye on it!
Check the park opening hours before you go
The park was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After reopening, all guests must reserve their visit date through the official website before visiting the park. Be sure to check out the park’s opening hours before planning your trip.
Bring a water bottle, cap, sunscreen, and mini portable fan
If you want to save money, bring your own water bottle. There are free refillable water stations inside the park. Summer in Hong Kong can be really hot, so pack sunscreen and a cap or a mini portable fan and stay hydrated.
Buy meal voucher

If you’re going to stay until the fireworks, you’d probably spend at least one meal inside the park. The food inside the park is expensive, and buying a meal voucher is cheaper. A meal voucher includes a meal (can be used for lunch or dinner) and a snack (popcorn or ice cream bar). Also, try to take an early lunch/dinner to avoid the crowd in the restaurants.
Arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before the show starts

Queue 30 to 45 minutes before the show starts, the live stage shows are popular and seats fill up pretty quickly. Plus, if you queue early, you’ll get to choose a better seat. Note that the “Mickey and the Wondrous Book” show has screens on both sides of the stage to display English and Chinese subtitles, so don’t sit too close to the stage if you want subtitles.
Wait for “Momentous”

Spending the whole day in the park can be pretty tiring, but don’t go yet without seeing the new “Momentous” nighttime display. It is a 20-minute show, with different scenes from different Disney movies projected on the castle. The show combines stunning projections, fountains, a light show, and a fireworks display. It is a must when visiting HK Disneyland, don’t miss it!
Disneyland Hotels
If your budget allows it, staying at one of the Disneyland hotels can save you time and energy. Each hotel has different themes and activities for guests to enjoy. What’s more, all the hotels offer free shuttle buses to and from Disneyland.

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel
Among the three Disneyland hotels, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is the most expensive. The hotel has many amenities and recreational activities for guests to enjoy. The standard rooms are bigger compared to the standard rooms in the hotels in the city center. In addition, most of the rooms sleep up to 4 persons, perfect for families with children.
One of my favorite parts during my stay was the buffet breakfast because, in addition to great food, we got to meet Mickey, Pluto, and Donald. The maze behind the hotel and swimming pool also became a highlight of my stay.
At the time of writing, Klook is offering a package deal that includes two 1-Day Disneyland tickets, or one of the following: free sim card, portable WiFi, airport express tickets, etc.
Disney Explorers Lodge
The theme of the Disney Explorer Lodge is adventure. When I entered the hotel, I felt like an explorer ready for adventure. The decorations somewhat remind me of the Adventureland of Hong Kong Disneyland. Similar to HK Disneyland Hotel, the rooms also sleep up to 4 persons. I haven’t stayed in this hotel yet. But the great thing about Disney Hotels is that it is open to the public. Guests can buy merchandise from the shops in these hotels. The hotel has a themed garden, a swimming pool, and a Nemo-themed recreational playground for children! Do take note that some amenities and activities are only accessible to guests staying at the hotel.
At the time of writing, Klook is offering a package deal that includes two 1-Day Disneyland tickets when booking a standard room.
Disney’s Hollywood Hotel
The newly renovated Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is all about the art of storytelling and movie-making. Guests can participate in an artistry tour and a movie premiere. Again, I haven’t stayed in this hotel, and the last time I visited was before its renovation.
At the time of writing, Klook is offering a package deal that includes two 1-Day Disneyland tickets, or a Haagen Daz ice cream coupon when booking a standard room.
To learn more about each hotel’s amenities and recreational activities, visit the official website. That’s it! Hope you find these tips helpful and have a magical day at HK Disneyland!
